Overview
(edit)
Central West End is a distinct neighborhood in central St. Louis, Missouri. The area grew in popularity following the 1904 Worlds Fair, and remains very popular today. Many famous poets, playwrights, athletes and musicians were born and raised in Central west End.
What makes this neighborhood so distinct is how little it has changed since the early 20th century. Turn of the century lamp posts, cobblestone streets and historic buildings all add to the charm of this area.
Most homes are lofts converted from an old office building, a few duplexes and fourplexes, and the rare original apartment building. Due to the demand for this area, many homes throughout this area can be quite expensive.
However, you do get what you pay for here, as most apartments and lofts are equipped with modern amenities, large floor plans and other bonuses.
Central West End is considered to be very family friendly, with lots of shopping plazas, parks and a few schools available. Rent does vary quite a bit between a one bedroom and two or more bedrooms, so those who are looking to live in an urban area but might not have a lot of spend on rent might want to look in one of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Public transportation is also readily available, and most residents of Central West End commute to either downtown or midtown St. Louis.

Bar Louie is one of my favorite hang outs. The team of servers and bartenders are friendly and fun and the food is good too. Catch $1.00 burger night on Tuesday's if you are working on a shoe string budget.

The thing I love about the neighborhood is that it is central to everything. I am five minutes from Forest Park, a short train ride to baseball and hockey games, and within walking distance to the Central West End and the famed Loop.
Having lived in San Francisco, Seattle and most recently Portland Oregon, it's hard to call Saint Louis the ideal place to live but it is growing on me. I will say the people are amazing, friendly and helpful.
