Shawnee has good numbers with education-95% with high school diplomas, 39% with college degrees, and 12% have graduate or professional degrees. Renting an apartment won't cost you too much, $600-$800. For culture and arts, you'll have to drive into Kansas City. There's not much going on here. The parks and recreation department is organized and offers a variety of activities and well-maintained facilities. The Shawnee Mission Park and Lake are big draws for the community. If you enjoy fishing or hiking trails, this is a good place to hang. Overall, this is a good suburb for family life. It's not the most interesting and lacks in the arts department. Diversity isn't here either, so it's a little homogenous and drab for my taste. But if you want a stable environment, solid schools, and the suburban life, you'll like it.

This town is very safe and great for family life. The cost of living isn't too bad. Housing costs won't break you. Lenexa's citizenry is well educated with 96% having high school diplomas, 49% with college degrees, and 16% with graduate or professional degrees. It's not a place for artists or really for people who want to enjoy the arts. That takes a ride into Kansas City. They have community events like their annual BBQ festival that attracts people from all over the state. It's clean and the schools are pretty good. There aren't a lot of good restaurant choices. You have some chains, but there are a few ethnic places to get something other than American. There are no higher learning institutions, but the drive to one isn't that long either. This city is a great suburb that's stable and relatively criminal free. If the suburban life is what you're looking for, then you'll like. It's boring to me, but I recommend it based on the strong economy and other attributes.

Mission is city that remained stagnant through the first half of the 20th century. However, growth and prosperity have come about in the last 20 years. One interesting aspect is that the town has a program for helping low income residents maintain their homes by supplying paint and other materials. The idea is that everyone benefits if homes look good. Also, Mission is a member of the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Thus, the city has demonstrated a commitment to environmental protections. They even rejected the building of a Walmart because of concerns of the environment. In terms of apartment housing, prices are very reasonable as most things are in this area. You can expect to pay $500 to $900 for an apartment in most cases. And since Mission is located so closely to I35, whichever apartment you choose, convenience is something you won't do without. This is a clean, organized small town. You're very close to Kanasa City, MO. Unemployment is fairly low, especially considering the recession. One can see why many pioneers decided to park it here instead of forging ahead to the west.
