Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, has roughly 400,000 residents and is one of the three cities (Durham and Chapel Hill are the other two) that make up what is known as the Research Triangle Metro Area.Historically a small town, Raleigh still has some of the small town qualities from the early 1990's. The housing is typically of a city of suburbs, lacking tall commercial buildings and concrete skyscrapers. Some might said that Raleigh housing has a "cookie-cutter" feel, but provides the upside of a quiet city with a separate business district known as the RTP. Knightdale is a town in Wake County, North Carolina and a suburb of Raleigh. While the area was established in the early 1700s, Knightdale was not populous until the late 1800s with the arrival of a railroad station. With the arrival of the railroad, the area began to grow rapidly, and enjoyed the establishment of post offices, businesses and neighborhoods. Wake Forest is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, north of the state capital, Raleigh. The town is the home of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and was formerly the home of Wake Forest University before it moved to Winston-Salem in 1956.The town was established in 1840 with the opening of Wake Forest College and the construction of a railroad depot in nearby Forestville. College leaders convinced the railroad to move the depot closer to the college in 1874, which stimulated economic and population growth. Even though Wake Forest University is no longer located in Wake Forest, the town still enjoys a steady population growth and new construction of homes and apartments. Clayton is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, with a very small portion of the town extending into Wake County. The town was initially developed in the early 1900s, with the addition of a railroad stop and various mills. The Great Depression, along with the closing of Claytons major mills, contributed to a lull in growth in the town. Due to Claytons proximity to Raleigh and the Research Triangle, Clayton has experienced a population boom.
