If you are drawn to big cities that are environmentally conscious then there is no better choice for you than a Portland apartment home! Portland, Oregon is the 30th largest city in the U.S. and serves as the seat of Multnomah County. Even though possessing a dominant presence in Multnomah County, Portland also claims land in Washington County and Clackamas County as well. Just like their NBA home team, The Trail Blazers, Portland apartment renters live in a town full of groundbreaking innovators and trendsetters.
The father of the city, William Overton, introduced this trailblazing spirit to the Portland area. In 1843, Overton realized the economic promise of the area but didn't have the capital to file the land claim. He made a deal with Asa Lovejoy that he would split his share of 640 acres for 25 cents. Overton didn't hold on to his portion of the land for long. He sold his share to Francis. W. Pettygrove making Pettygrove and Lovejoy instant business partners. These gentlemen both wanted to name this territory after their hometowns and decided to toss a coin to end the dispute. After three tosses, Pettygrove proved to be the victor. Since Pettygrove came from Portland, Maine, it only seemed right to deem the name, Portland, Oregon. Portland was incorporated in 1851 and has been on the rise ever since!
Portland apartment dwellers live in a town decorated by the best nature has to offer! Willamette River flows through the heart of the city while Mount Tabor decorates the east side to the metropolis. The majestic backdrop of Mount Saint Helens and Mount Hood greet Portland apartment renters from several angles within the city.
Portland apartment communities are scattered among countless neighborhoods and towns within the Portland vicinity. Portland apartment hunters should comb through the various areas to locate the Portland apartment with the style and flair suitable for their needs.
If interested in the Southwestern part of town, browse through Bridlemile, Hillsdale and Multnomah communities. If the Southeast territory is more your cup of tea, begin your Portland apartment search in Eastermorland, Mt. Tabor or Sellwood-Moreland neigborhoods. Alameda, Concordia, Irvington or Grant Park communities are packed with Portland apartments waiting for new occupants. Regardless to the Portland apartment community you decide to make home, rest assure you will be living in a city full of vibrancy and culture.
From professional NBA games to endless cultural and recreational outlets, Portland apartment dwellers will never be able to say they live in a dull city! Voted the "Greenest City" in America many times, Portland is an attractive, clean, and friendly city. You can walk or ride a bike easily. There are numerous options for transportation including light rail, buses, and streetcars. It's a safe area with a fairly low crime rate. With a strong well-supported arts community, you can enjoy dance, visual art, and great music. The downside is that housing is a little pricey. You'll pay between $900-$1400 for an apartment in Oregon. They're spacious, so it's not like paying a lot of money to live in a closet like in Manhattan. But compared to incomes, it's on the high end. The good thing is apartments are not scarce. And if you won't want to own a car, you can get by in this town. The other downside is that unemployment is high and has been a problem since before the recession. All in all, this a wonderful city with much to offer. It has a long history of preserving green space. Thus the parks are spectacular. In fact, you can enjoy Forest Park, the largest wilderness park inside a city. If you've got a game plan for employment, and can deal with Oregon's apartment costs, you'll love if here.
