Overview
(edit)
Camelback East is home to Phoenix's most elite residents. This area is chock full of multi-million dollar homes and upscale shops that cater to residents like Charles Barkley and Alice Cooper. Many of Phoenix's top 5-star resorts, like the Arizona Biltmore and the Phoenician, are located here along with 2 membership only country clubs that offer top-notch golf. Shoppers patronize venues like Biltmore Fashion Park and Camelback Colonnade which sport upscale shops like William-Sonoma and Cartier. Just about every major high-end steahouse chain is represented here, along with moderate to expensive eateries run by well-known chefs, such as Eddie Matney's and Christopher's. Financial institutions and investment firms have a high profile in the business district around the Arizona Biltmore and down the Camelback Corridor, as do lawyers and doctors. Rents here will be higher than in other areas of Phoenix, but pockets of reasonably priced housing can be found along the west border and in the southeast part of the neighborhood. The area is relatively safe in comparison to other Phoenix neighborhoods. As per other areas of Phoenix, traffic can be an issue. The area has easy access to major freeways though, allowing for quick travel to surrounding parts of the Valley. Surface streets tend to clog around the Biltmore area. Employment prospects in the area are reasonable and can be found in the corporate, retail, hospitality and food service sectors. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the hiking trails on Piestewa Peak and Camelback Mountain. There are some smaller nightclubs in the Biltmore area for evening entertainment, along with neighborhood bars. Anyone looking to hang with the "in crowd" would be at home in Camelback East.

While I enjoyed living in this area of town, I did not always enjoy the people. The upscale nature of the area tends to attract "plastic" people who are very self-absorbed. If finances aren't an issue and you can get past some of the snobby behavior, this is an excellent place to live and work! The area is well manicured with some beautifully maintained homes and neighborhoods and the shopping is great if you are into the Pottery Barn scene. If you wanna be "seen" around town, this is the place to hang out. You'll eat well and look great, but it will cost you a buck or two.
