Overview
(edit)
The Orange Groves area in Mesa is so named because years ago, the area was blanketed with acres and acres of citrus trees. The area is now taken over by urban development, but a few small orchards remain. This is quite evident in late February/early March, when the wonderful aroma of orange blossoms waft through the area.
"The Groves" is roughly bordered by University Road to the south, Thomas Road to the north, Gilbert Road, west and Greenfield to the east. Most of zip code 85213 and parts of zips 85205 and 85215 make up the area. For property values, the zips 85213 and 85215 are the second and third highest in the city. Condos and townhomes are available, most are in the $100,000 to 150,000 range, but homes in The Groves generally start in the high $200,000's and go up from there. While the area is predominantly single family homes, there are several apartment complexes available. Expect to pay about $800 a month for a two bedroom, two bath apartment, or about a thousand for a similar condo or townhome. The area even has its own monthly community newspaper, which can be checked out at www.nearbynews.com/groves/index.htm
The neighborhood is upper middle class and relatively safe The schools are some of the best in the entire east valley. Grocery stores, churches and banks are plentiful. Close proximity to the Mesa Arts Center, Downtown Mesa, the Mesa Amphitheater and Hohokam Park (spring training locale for the Cubs) make this an enjoyable place to live. Both US 60 and the Loop 202 are a ten minute drive or less from all points of the Orange Groves, making access to other parts of the valley a snap.
Location, location, location: The Orange Groves has it in spades!
