Hiding on the outskirts of Boulder is the wonderful scenery of Lafayette, Colorado. The boarders of this city wrap its arms around an estimated populace of 24,000. Lafayette apartment occupants are extended a scope of mountainous artsy exclusive to this portion of America and seek to make you fall in love with its charm.
This premier Front Range community has a rich heritage and interesting beginning. The community leader, Mary Miller, is responsible for the birth of Lafayette, Colorado. She moved to the vicinity with her husband, Lafayette Miller, with their hearts set on farming a plot of land. They had six children and the entire family moved from their first home to nearby Boulder. When Lafayette died in 1878, Mary packed up the kids and moved back to their original farm site in the Lafayette area. She designated 150 acres of their farm for the town's development; in 1890, the city was incorporated. She ascribed the name Lafayette to the township, after her late husband.
Luckily this mother of six was far from broke! Coal was found on Mary's property in 1884 and the locals started to sniff out the possibilities of other coal treasures buried in the area. Soon this community was the "it-spot" for mining like its neighboring cities. With this mining craze came quick development. By 1914, the city was bursting at the seams with houses, a small collection of hotels and two flourishing banks.
Mary's innovative business spirit kept her making, mo' money, mo' money, mo' money! Even when the city was destroyed with fire in 1900, she was part of the rebuilding efforts and opened the Miller Bank in 1892. The name was switched to Lafayette Bank in 1902 and Mary was elected bank president. This trailblazer for businesswomen globally was the first female bank president in the world! Oprah has nothing on this lady!
Today, Lafayette remains a flourishing community packed with the same innovation and progress that made it a prosperous society at birth. Lafayette apartment dwellers have a wide choice of annual festivals like the Peach Festival, Wine Festival and the Lafayette Days celebrations. The yearly Oatmeal Festival is hosted by no other than Quaker Oats and is a poplar event for the locals.
Only 32 miles away from the metro area of Denver, a Lafayette apartment dweller is extremely close to an array of outlets afforded by a big city. Once you have played all you can in Denver, you are able to retreat to a calmer way of life in Lafayette. With all the natural beauty and rich heritage, you just can't wait to move in!
