Hood Wiki
Whitney Ranch has many single-family homes and apartment complexes. The area is fairly new, so the buildings are still in good shape. Single-family homes can be rented starting at $1500 to $2500 a month, depending on the size. A one-bedroom apartment usually goes for around $900 a month, and two-bedroom apartments start at around $1050. The area is very family-friendly, but lots of young singles live here, too.
Most of Whitney Ranch’s nightlife can be found at the Sunset Station Casino. The casino offers many bars and restaurants, including Hooters, Guadalajara Bar & Grille, and Sonoma Cellar Steakhouse. Its nightclub, Club Madrid, hosts live concerts.
A slew of other restaurants can be found in and around the Galleria Mall. Chilly Palmers, a bar and restaurant, is located in the southwest corner of Whitney Ranch. It has video poker, which is fairly standard for bars (and grocery stores and gas stations) in Henderson and Las Vegas. However, it also has three pool tables, electronic darts, and a foosball table, which are not as common in this gambling-obsessed region.
Whitney Ranch offers a good value. The rent is reasonable, and the apartments are generally spacious. Most apartment complexes consist of many small, two-story buildings. They generally have one or even two pools and sometimes a small gym. Most units come with a washer and dryer. Add to that the abundance of local restaurants, stores, and other entertainment options, and you’ve got a great place to live.
The bus system in Whitney Ranch is not very convenient. The 212 runs along Sunset, the 217 runs along Warm Springs, and the 115A runs along Stephanie. The 212 runs every half hour, but the others only run once an hour. If you rely on the bus, expect to walk a ways to your stop. Also, most of the bus stops are not covered, so the Las Vegas sun is a problem.
Fortunately, parking is not a problem. The local shopping centers have large parking lots. Some on-street parking is available around the single-family houses. Apartment complexes generally have a sufficient amount of parking. Some offer covered spaces, and others even offer private garages. This is generally included in the cost of rent.
It’s fairly easy to get an apartment in Whitney Ranch, so take some time to find the best deal. Move-in specials, some of which offer a month’s free rent, are not uncommon. Covered parking, pools, gyms, and in-unit washers and dryers are all common and are usually included in the base rent. If you’re worried about safety, look for a gated place with a security guard.
Whitney Ranch is very pet friendly. Most apartment complexes accept pets, although pet owners will usually have to pay an extra deposit, around $300 to $500. Sometimes the monthly rent is raised a little, too. Many apartment complexes have some areas where dogs can be walked.
The biggest source of entertainment in Whitney Ranch is definitely the Sunset Station Casino. This huge building boasts a movie theater, bowling lanes, concerts, and a night club. And, of course, there’s also a casino.
If you want to swim, you can go to the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Center on Gallieria Drive. Although most aparment complexes in the area include at least one pool, the Aquatic Center, which has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, and water slides, is still worth visiting. Next door, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center offers raquetball courts amoung its facilities.
Whitney Ranch is a shopaholic’s dream. The Galleria Mall has the usual assortment of department stores and smaller stores selling everything from fine jewelry to books. Another shopping center right across the street includes a Target and a Ross.
Whitney Ranch Drive and the surrounding side streets is a great place to live. There are both single-family homes and apartment complexes. This area is mostly residential, so it’s quiet, but it’s also conveniently close to several shopping centers. There’s generally very little traffic, and it’s a good place for pedestrians and bicyclists. If you live close enough to Sunset, you can easily walk to many nearby restaurants and stores, as well as the Sunset Station Casino.
Sunset, Stephanie, and Warm Springs are lined with various stores, the vast majority of which are large chains. Many major banks, inlcuding Wells Fargo, US Bank, and Bank of America, have branches in this area.
Grocery stores range from cheap (99 Cents Only Store and Wal-Mart on Marks) to gourmet (Wild Oats, recently bought by Whole Foods, on Stephanie). There’s also a new Fresh & Easy on Sunset, and the shopping center at Sunset and Stephanie includes a Von’s and a Target.
There aren’t as many gyms, but most apartment complexes include a small gyms for residents. Women have the additional option of going to the local Curves or Ladies Workout Express. Other gyms, for both men and women, are located just west of the Whitney Ranch neighborhood.
Most apartments in the area come with a washer and dryer, so laundromats aren’t common. There are, however, a few dry cleaners, inclduing Ace Cleaners on Stephanie.
Whitney Ranch’s Green Valley High School is probably a bit better than the average school in the area. It generally gets positive reviews from parents. Several colleges and universities, including the University of Southern Nevada, are located nearby but are not actually in Whitney Ranch.
