Situated long the west central border with Alabama and bordered by the Chattahoochee River is the warm and friendly city of Columbus. With 260,000 plus residents, Columbus is the states third largest city and is situated 100 miles south of Atlanta. The city is served by the Columbus Metropolitan Airport and is conveniently located near several major highways. Home to the Fort Benning Army facility, Columbus is said to be the origination point for the Coca-Cola formula and it is the home of Swift Denim, the largest producer of denim in the nation. Also, many major businesses call Columbus home as well, including Aflac, Synovus, TSYS, Char-Broil, Tom's Snack Foods, and Carmike Cinemas.
In 2008, Columbus was rated one of the 10 best cities by Best Life Magazine for its ease of life style and amenities offered to its residents. With a full array of public and private schools available as well as Columbus State University, the city is also home to many museums and an array of tourism sites. Columbus offers a wide variety of affordable housing in suburbs, but also in areas known as Midtown and Uptown. These areas offer not only housing but entertainment, shopping, dining and more. The locals like to say that southern pride and hospitality are alive and well in Columbus, and the community welcomes one and all.
