Birmingham is the largest city in Alabama and is centrally located within the state, in the Appalachian Mountain foothills. Residents enjoy a diverse economy fueled by manufacturing and service-oriented jobs within the banking, insurance, medical and publishing areas. It's over 230,000 residents have seen the growth of the downtown area into a 24-hour mixed-use district, with condominiums and lofts, restaurants and retail shops, parks and a botanical garden. The city provides a full array of public and private schools, as well as several colleges and universities within easy access. Culture is alive and well in the city with its various art galleries, museums, ballet, symphony orchestra companies, and an opera house. Birmingham is serviced by several major highways and access to the international airport is convenient. As with any large metropolitan area there are numerous suburbs that have easy access to the downtown. Home pricing is within the affordable range and there is a good supply of rental properties as well.
Birmingham is classic southern city with pleasant weather and even nicer home town people.
