 Overview (edit)

The Emory area is in the Druid Hills neighborhood, about 5 miles from downtown Atlanta. Emory University, a prestigious private university, is at the heart of the area. It's original name, Emory College, was founded in 1836 in Oxford, GA, by the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1914, the Methodist Church wanted a university in the south while Emory was looking to expand. Asa Candler, founder of the Coca-Cola Company donated funds and land in Atlanta. The school also received a charter from Dekalb County to build at the present campus. Emory attracts the best and brightest students from all over the United States. The school receives a great deal of money from alumnus, fellow Atlantans, and other big donors. The beautiful and well designed campus reflects the high dollars that flow into the school. Not surprisingly, the neighborhood around it is one of the nicest places to live in Atlanta.

The Emory area is a great place to live. If you can afford to buy a home here, you never leave. Or you at least keep the home in the family. The homes are older structures on large tree-filled lots, conveniently located on the east side of Atlanta. You have sidewalks and even a few shops and restaurants at Emory Village located on North Decatur Road. It's clean, organized, and relatively safe. The apartments are mostly older by at least 20 years. So some are very charming, but lack the amenities of newer places. You're very close to trendy neighborhoods like Virginia Highlands, Little 5 Points, and downtown Decatur. And yet, the area is so forested with the large trees, you feel you're not in the city, if your place is not on one of the busier streets. It's a relaxing neighborhood that's only a stone's throw from shopping, clubs, bars, and other great things the city has to offer .
