Hood Wiki
What a mix! Young and young-at-heart intellectuals and artists, latin americans, pub-hoppers, earthy granola-eaters, hip young families, older layed-back retirees wanting to live a natural life.
Haywood has a bunch of new pubs and restaurants. Westville Pub is the old standby, and has a nice following. Tolliver's is new and The Rocket Club has bands. Sunny Pointe is great for brunch on the weekends - always a line, so be prepared to wait! West End Bakery has fantastic coffee and goodies - it is the perfect place to sit and read.
West Asheville is where the more affordable properties are in Asheville. Beware some of the lowest prices are in less deseriable neighborhoods which tend to have mainly Section 8 or subsidized properties. Pubs, ethnic restaurants, dancing, drumming, hiking, culture are all nearby.

There are lots of apartments in Asheville that are overpriced. It is a multi-cultural area, close to the artistic bohemian Haywood Road, and tucked into Malvern Hills, which is all residential and very cute.

Patton Ave. has just about everything except upscale restaurants. You can find grocers, banks, gas stations, fast food, international shops, low-rider businesses, furniture, car parts, etc. all on this main thoroughfare that goes from downtown Asheville all the way to Enka/Candler on the Smokey Park Highway. Haywood is full of little pubs, hair salons, consignment shops, coffee houses and restaurants - really cool artistic area.
Vance Elementary is one of the best schools in Asheville - it is right in this area. Malvern Hills community park has tennis courts, walking/running path, swimming pool, picnic tables & a big grassy space to play with your pup!
